In 2014, the Ugandan government passed a bill known as the “Anti-Homosexuality Act,” which criminalized homosexuality with life imprisonment as the maximum penalty. However, the law was later invalidated by the Constitutional Court of Uganda in August 2014, citing procedural issues during its passage.
Currently, same-sex relationships are still criminalized under the Ugandan Penal Code. However, the government has not passed any new laws specifically targeting the LGBTQ community as of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021.
It is important to note that laws criminalizing homosexuality or targeting the LGBTQ community are considered a violation of human rights by international human rights organizations.
