“Finland chooses a new leader” by The Week Junior (Pt. III)
On the 2nd of April, Prime Minister Sanna Marin came 3rd in the nation’s general election, soon to be replaced by Petteri Orpo, head of the National Coalition Party.
In the run-up to the election, it looked like it would be a very close race between Marin and the other two parties. However, Orpo secured the victory by promising the public that he will spend less on the social benefits system. Many have worried that Marin had been spending too much money, and Orpo plans to get rid of the debt that Finland owes and that Marin accumulated. A study showed that 35% of Finnish people worry about money as much as they worry about the country’s money, and some people thought that Marin was spending too much. People saw Orpo as a way to solve the country’s money issues.
